KATEM has long dedicated itself to securing foundational technologies in the Construction Equipment and Agricultural Machinery component fields. In particular, Construction Equipment is a strategic focus area, where KATEM has a strong track record in R&D of core components based on Commercial Vehicles technology, including design, manufacturing, and reliability evaluation of power transmission and brake components. In the agricultural tractor sector, we also hold proprietary technologies for manufacturing power transmission shafts and differential gearboxes that transmit engine power to the wheels.
KATEM has demonstrated extensive R&D and mass-production achievements for core components such as drive shafts and differential gearboxes for 14t and 18t excavators in the Construction Equipment sector. Additionally, we have secured proprietary technologies covering the full lifecycle of tractor drive shafts in the agricultural machinery sector, from design to manufacturing and testing, along with domestic infrastructure for reliability evaluation.
We possess substantial experience in the design, manufacturing, and testing of Double Cardan type drive shafts for Construction Equipment and agricultural machinery, which were previously dependent on imports. Through dedicated reliability testing facilities at the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM) and material and torsion durability testing using specialized facilities at the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), we have accumulated significant know-how in reliability evaluation.
The Double Cardan type drive shaft, used across all Commercial Vehicles except passenger cars, remains fully imported, making import substitution a high-potential opportunity. Furthermore, KATEM has the experience and capability to perform all stages of design and testing of differential gearboxes, key power transmission components in Construction Equipment excavators that transfer engine rotational power from the propeller shaft to the wheels via left and right drive shafts. This positions KATEM as an R&D-specialized company for Commercial Vehicle power transmission components.
Building on this technological foundation, KATEM plans to further accelerate efforts to expand into overseas markets.
